Prof. C.V.R. Murty, IITM Civil Engg, seismic design expert, shaped India’s quake safety codes.
Professor C. V. R. Murty is a Chair Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras and former Director of IIT Jodhpur. He earned his B.Tech (1984) and M.Tech (1986) in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras. An expert in earthquake-resilient structural design, his research spans nonlinear seismic behavior, displacement-based design, and seismic code development. He has contributed to India’s National Disaster Management earthquake guidelines, led post-earthquake reconnaissance teams, and served on national technical committees.
