Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, IITM Prof Emeritus, ex-Director, key figure in India’s 5G push.
Professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi is Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras and served as the Institute’s Director from 2011 to 2021. An alumnus of IIT Madras, he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara and worked at AT&T Bell Labs before returning to India. His research spans communications and signal processing, with contributions to wireless networks, modulation, and audio-video compression. A key figure in India’s 5G ecosystem, he coordinated the national 5G Test Bed project. He is a Fellow of IEEE, INAE, and an Honorary Fellow of RWTH Aachen, Germany.
